Indian Digital Currency E-Rupee or e₹ or eINR

The Indian Digital Currency E-Rupee is digital currency in India. As of my knowledge cut-off in 2021, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the country's central bank, has not yet introduced a digital version of the Indian rupee.

However, the RBI has been exploring the possibility of issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in India. In 2021, the RBI formed a working group to study the feasibility of issuing a CBDC and to assess the potential benefits and risks of such a currency.

If the RBI does decide to issue a CBDC, it would likely be designed as a digital version of the Indian rupee that would coexist with physical currency. The E-Rupee would be aimed at improving financial inclusion, increasing access to digital financial services, and enhancing the efficiency of monetary policy.

It's important to note that the development of an E-Rupee or a CBDC in India is still in its early stages and the possibility of such a currency being introduced remains uncertain. However, if it is introduced, it could have a significant impact on the Indian financial system and the way in which people use money in the country.
